"For me it was all about ACCOUNTABILITY!  For years I dealt with symptoms of IBS, although never actually diagnosed with this syndrome. Like you I’m sure, I’ve read hundreds of articles and watched countless videos online about how to achieve better gut health or relieve bloating. And while there were minor differences in each approach, the message was the same…cut out certain trigger foods and make a lifestyle change, not a diet!

I had gone on and off trying the “diet” approach for years, but was never able to maintain consistency. Never wanting to miss out on an opportunity to experience a fun time with friends and family, where I would certainly indulge in food and drink (most often beer) that would bring on certain symptoms, it became a rollercoaster ride for me and my stomach.

When I decided to take control of it, and really make some changes, I asked Ciara for some advice and suggestions. This was not easy for me for two reasons… One, she is basically like family to me and letting someone in on something that I had been struggling with was difficult. Especially someone that close. I know it sounds weird because you should be able to share these things with those closest to you. But, I felt like I didn’t want to burden her with my problem. While my friends and family, Ciara included, were aware that I had “stomach issues” over the years, I don’t think that anyone knew the extent of it. So this was a big step and Ciara made it very easy and comfortable. The second reason was that I thought, “I know what I need to know, I’ve done my research. She’s going to tell me what I already know. I don’t need help”.

I put those two fears aside and decided to go for it. What a great decision for me. And the main reason, there was someone there to finally hold me accountable! Someone to check in and see how I was progressing, to see how I felt and offer assistance with any changes that I might need to make.  Now it wasn’t about just letting myself down by slipping back into old habits, but also letting someone else down who is investing their time and emotion into your health as well.

There was never any feeling of pressure, and expectations were never set too high where I felt I couldn’t achieve them. Ciara asked for my input on my eating and drinking habits. She also used the results of the health survey to identify where my “problem” areas were (as I said earlier, I had done my own research and self-diagnosed some of this previously, but seeing results based on an extensive list of survey questions resonates a lot differently).

My experience thus far has been remarkable. By following specific guidelines and making a few sacrifices (some bigger than others) I no longer feel like I have to miss out on activities or experiences because I worry about my stomach issues kicking in. I know exactly what foods and drinks to keep out of my daily diet. And I don’t mean keep them out for a week or a month, but permanently. The feeling of anxiety, and always wondering what will I do if my stomach acted up while I was here or there, has gone away as well.

Having someone to turn to and lean on or ask advice, or just share a story of accomplishment is a great feeling. It’s a feeling that motivates you to not fall back into old habits. This is by far the most impactful part of my experience with Ciara. Accountability is key!!"
